Bernard Tomic finishing season on high note, wins his third title of the year

Former world No 17 Bernard Tomic has won the ITF Santo Domingo. On Sunday, Tomic defeated Darian King 6-3 4-6 6-3 in the Santo Domingo final. Tomic, who was the second-seeded player in Santo Domingo, captured his third ITF title of the year this week.

En route to winning Santo Domingo, Tomic also defeated Alexander Petrov, Mac Kiger, Jesse Flores and Peter Bertran. Tomic dropped two sets en route to winning Santo Domingo as he also needed three sets in his match versus Kiger in the round-of-16.

In September, Tomic captured the ITF Cancun title - that was his first triumph since 2018. In early October, Tomic won his second ITF title after winning another ITF event in Cancun. This week in the Dominican Republic, Tomic had another great run as he enjoyed his third victorious run of the year.

Tomic motivated to return to his old level

Tomic, who dropped outside the top-800 in August, is now ranked just outside the top-500 in the world. Tomic, who turned 30 last month, is determined to end his career on a positive note.

"I’ve had a lot of hate in my life. But I can’t give up. You don’t think I see the hate comments? It hurts. In the past I used to let it get to me and react out of stupidity. But now I’m using it as fuel.

I have come back before. It’s time to set the record straight," Tomic said at the start of the season. It remains to be seen if next year Tomic will return to the competing on the main level events.
